Tom Allensworth, the founder and CEO of one of the most popular flight sim-oriented websites – AVSIM – has passed away today from a terminal illness.
This news was not entirely unexpected, as he notified the community a few weeks ago about his condition, but it still came as a shock and too soon. Tom passed away early in the morning as advised by Eric Tomlin in this post on AVSIM.

I’m sorry to announce that I’ve just learned that Mr. Tom Allensworth has passed away from a terminal illness earlier this morning around 5:30 AM. I was notified by his sister who is a family member (aunt by marriage) of mine. I’m sure that there will be more information forthcoming as folks are made aware, but please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. Her message to me was “Tom passed this morning about 5:30a. Thanks for your prayers and kind words. AVSIM meant a lot to him and I’m sure he was aware of the support he from the AVSIM community”.
Tom will be dearly missed as he was an integral part of this community. There are people that supported his work as well as those that saw that work in a less positive light, but whatever the case may be, Tom’s absence will be missed.
RIP Tom Allensworth.
